About us

Supporting children, empowering families and strengthening inclusive practice.

At Independent SEN Support Services, we believe that every child deserves to feel understood, valued and supported to achieve their full potential. We recognise that navigating the world of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) can sometimes feel overwhelming, whether you are a parent seeking the right support for your child or a school working to meet the increasingly complex needs of its pupils.

Our aim is simple: to make SEND support more accessible, practical and effective for everyone involved.

Meet Christine

Independent SEN Support Services was founded by Christine Mayes, an experienced primary school leader, Assistant Headteacher and Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo), with a passion for inclusion and improving outcomes for children with additional needs.

With extensive experience in mainstream primary education, a Master’s degree in Inclusion specialising in autism, and years of experience supporting children with a wide range of needs, Christine brings both professional expertise and a genuine understanding of the challenges faced by families and schools.

Throughout her career, Christine has worked closely with parents, teachers, external professionals and local authorities to ensure that children receive the support they need. Her experience includes developing inclusive school provision, supporting children with complex needs, navigating Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), training school staff and helping families understand their rights and the support available to them.

Having worked in senior school leadership, Christine understands the realities of delivering effective SEND provision within busy educational settings, including the pressures on staff, resources and time.

Working Together for Better Outcomes

We believe that the best outcomes for children are achieved when families, schools and professionals work together.

For families, we offer independent, approachable advice and practical support to help you understand SEND processes, navigate EHCPs and annual reviews, and feel confident advocating for your child.

For schools, we provide experienced, practical support to strengthen SEND provision, develop staff confidence and create inclusive environments where all pupils can thrive. From SENCo mentoring and inclusion reviews to staff training and strategic SEND development, our services are designed around the individual needs of each setting.

Our approach is collaborative, compassionate and grounded in real educational experience. We don’t believe in one-size-fits-all solutions. Instead, we take time to understand each child, family or school and provide clear, realistic recommendations that make a meaningful difference.

Our Commitment

At the heart of Independent SEN Support Services is the belief that inclusion is more than simply meeting a child’s needs. It is about creating opportunities, removing barriers and ensuring that every child has a genuine sense of belonging.

Whether you are a parent looking for reassurance and guidance or a school seeking specialist support, we are here to help you move forward with clarity, confidence and a shared focus on what matters most: the children.
